Paid Media
I worked as a performance marketing executive at Screwfix for 5 years and 8 months. During that time, my main focus was paid social, particularly Meta ads (Facebook & Instagram). I also led affiliate marketing, worked on display marketing and worked closely with the paid search manager and team. During that time, I became an expert in paid media, diving into analytics and running experiments to learn everything about performance marketing. Most of my time was spent investigating the incrementality of our ad spend. Investigating how much of the revenue/sales platforms like Meta reported we were generating from our ads was revenue Screwfix wouldn't have made without the ads.
I created an "All Products" campaign a few years into my time at Screwfix because I expected that giving the Meta algorithm as much data as I could and letting it decide how to use it would be the most effective campaign for ROAS. I was right. "All Products" became our best-performing campaign, generating more than double the ROAS of the previous strategy, which only promoted products aligned with the broader marketing promotions at the time, such as seasonal sales. Our ROAS went from £40-£50 to £100+. Most of the data analysis I did thereafter was focused on incrementality.
Cognique was a fantastic learning experience for me as it allowed me to get fully stuck into Google search/PPC ads. Cognique allowed me to manage several Google Ads accounts, one of which spent £30k+ per month. One client was generating a good number of enquiries; however, many were from businesses outside of their ideal service area.
To improve this, I created a new targeting and keyword strategy to focus on a tighter geographical area without the number of enquiries dropping off too much. The change was successful; the enquiries they received after I did this work were higher quality, more local, and the overall number of enquiries did not drop significantly. We received a message from the client telling us it was the best marketing they had seen in a long time.
During my 2 years at Core Creative, a digital marketing agency in Somerset, I managed organic social media for half a dozen clients, sometimes more depending on fluctuations in team size. I managed the planning and execution of content on LinkedIn, X (previously Twitter) and Facebook. I also managed all interactions on their social media, including DMs and mentions. These were all B2B clients, so LinkedIn was the main focus.
I also have a personal YouTube channel that I have been creating content for in my spare time for 10 years. I have amassed 50,000 subscribers and over 13,000,000 views. So I know how to build an audience on social media organically!
During my time at Core Creative (Now called 'The Core Agency'), I wrote SEO optmised articles for clients. The goal was to educate people on relevant topics and improve search rankings. Weaving keywords into website content boosts your ranking in Google search by answering the questions your customers and potential customers are asking.
I often got positive feedback on the content I created. For example:
Alternatives to Georgian Wired Glass
Shortly after writing the Georgian Wired Glass article, my client called the director of Core Creative to tell them how happy they were with the articles I had written for them.
What should you consider before Installing Underfloor Heating with an acoustic layer?
